The last anecdote about my grandpa is how he learned a valuable life lesson. Before my grandpa went to work in the oil fields, he had been young, naive, and needed some money. He was living in Alaska at the time with his cousin. They decided they would go chop down a tree in a national park(Because the logging camp was far away) to sell later for some cash; even though it was illegal. So one night around 2 A.M. they got a chainsaw and began cutting down a rather large tree. Well, halfway through, the chainsaw got stuck because the tree was pinching the blade. So they were going to go get my dads cousin’s chainsaw, but right before they left the tree fell down by itself. So they went and got the other chainsaw in order to chop up the tree in smaller pieces and get the other chainsaw out from under the tree. The chainsaw that had been under the tree, got partially ruined during the fall. And so, the next day, when they sold the wood, they spent all the money on fixing my grandpas chainsaw. And they realized that taking the easy way out doesn’t always pay off and neither does committing a crime.
I'm doing my biography on my grandpa Elroy, here are my two anecdotes:
1)When my grandpa was in his 20s, he worked in Montana in the oil fields. And one day when it was around -10 degrees outside, a pipe broke down in an oil well and it began to flood. My grandpas group got to cold, and left to go the dog house(A hut with heating). But my grandpa, being the leader(and stubborn) stayed and clamped the pipe by himself. And that took about 20 minutes. Afterward, he went to the doghouse to meet up with the other, and when he got there, the others had to cut his clothes off of him because they had frozen solid. But he did fix the pipe!
2)A few years ago, when money was scarce, my grandpas daughter's(my aunt's) dog injured itself. Its back had gotten hurt and the procedure to get it fixed was a 6000 dollar surgery. Well my grandpa had been buying medication for his heart, but he felt the dog should get the surgery, so he stopped buying his medication for a while so he could use the money to pay for the dogs surgery. And the dog did get the surgery and made a healthy recovery.
